The TWA Terminal was designed to express movement and transition, often the form is said to have the likeness to an eagle in flight . Saarinen's main objective was to have a fully designed (to the finest detail) dramatic and dynamic space that spoke to the allure of travel in the 1960s that it was constructed.
The structure is a reinforced concrete shell constructed in a similar method as the Dulles terminal Saarinen designed just a few years before. The 315ft span is divided into four interacting vaulted domes supported on four y-shaped columns.
